DIY hybrid 2E-FE engine, 2E with 16V twincam and EFI: ALIVE!

2E-FE is being built by me, my Starlet engine needs a rebuild, it sips oil, runs lean on 2 to 3k revs, and has had pollution gas test problems.

From 2E (carbed) engine i use:
Block, crank, rods, tranni, clutch, starter and so on

From a 5EFE with distroyed crank bearings i use:

16V Head, pistons (to be pressed on the 2E rods) Timing gear, Intake and exhaust manifold.

Extra things needed: 2EE or 4EFE ecu, wiring harness, electric fuel pump and some thicker fuel line, petrol catch can in engine bay to insure fuel supply in the longer curves.

The cilinders have to be bored to 74mm (are 73)

At the moment busy with flowing the head. Keep you posted.

    Cool.

    Serious dedication.

Are 5E-FE used engines available there?

Also, the head gasket from a 1996 Tercel 5E-FE (if I remember correctly) is a .25 mm copper gasket from Toyota.
This might be a cheap compression ratio increase for you. Just make sure you have adequate clearance between the pistons and the head.

    Re: 2E-FE

Yes the Paseo is availablke here with 5EFE

Nice tip, good idea, but i am offered a set of 5EFHE pistons, so the CR will be increased to 1:9.8 or so. Will use a standard 2E gasket.

It is nice a lot of parts from the E series can be combined throug the whole line of capacity engines.

    Re: 2E-FE

Pressed the pistons off the 5E rods lately. The 2E is dismantled, the conversion begins...

3 hours of pulling the engine out(2 man), 2.5 hours completely dismantling (me only). Not bad for non garagists.

2E needs some attention, a lot of carbon.

On the right the diy press helping tools.

    Re: 2E-FE

Block is bored/honed, balancing the 4 valve pistons with the rods, busy to combine 2 wire harneses.

Combined 2 covers for the timing belt (2E bottom, 5E top cover) Had to saw some out the 2E one.

Coppersheet for headgasket is ordered, techline/camcoat coating for bearings and pistons must be applied too

    Hi Ngota1

There is no existance of a 2E-FE original from Toyota! You must have there a EFI setup either of a 4E-FE or 2E-E

Pulled some schematics from the i-net and braided the extra EP81 (2E-E) wiring harness into my EP71 harness.

    Used this one in special:

    Some extra useful schematics: (from: http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/sho ... g-Diagrams )

Here is some info on pinout of ecu: (4EFE though, but allmost the same as 2E-E)

Allmost done with my wiring harness
