1982 Motor Trend Starion vs Supra vs 280zx vs RX7 vs 944

A fellow Starion owner, AutoBodyGod, purchased a September 1982 Motor Trend off Ebay and shared with us some preliminary scans:

    (Check out that torque!!)

Interesting to see how the Starion compares to other models of the time. Boost was increased and a front mount intercooler added in later years bringing up the power, but displacement was not increased unlike the other models.

    Very cool, thanks boss!

Really like the HP #'s for the V8's... nothing like the new 5.0 Mustang.

@Komeuppance: great post. amazing how the Starion makes these outputs w/ 4 cylinder turbo engine. would be also interesting to know the figures for the '1982 280z Turbo.

Pity they weren't using the 2.0 Starion with the 175hp 4G63.

It's interesting what used to be considered acceptable accelleration/power for a sporty street car 30 odd years ago...

~150 horsepower & 16 second quarter miles....

What is crazier to me is how the "exotics" of the time were slower than a new US market V6 Toyota Camry

Woah, good info Tyson. I'll have to post up on the Starion forum. BTW, the last article you posted is for an 85.5 Starion, rare intercooled flat body (The specs aren't 100% accurate, but very close).

Salem hmm, what do you drive??
