I need some help on the topic of Nissan/Datsun!

    Hey guys,

Just wondering, Nissan took over Datsun in 1966? And phased them out in 1986? R31 started in 1985? Is there such thing as a Datsun Skyline R31? What Skylines were labelled Datsun?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mark?

In 1967, Nissan took over Prince.

But Nissan and Datsun were always the same company, it's just that outside of Japan the Datsun name was used after the mid 60s. In 1980 or so, foreign markets went back to the Nissan name. But in japan, the brand was always called Nissan, and the Datsun name was never used officially there.

So all Skylines in Japan (after the Prince takeover anyway) were badges Nissan. But Up until 1980 or so, all foreign Skylines would be Dattos

But, R31's were built here, and they were nissans. They were (from memory - too lazy to google) somewhere around 1985-6. We went Nissan way before that here though............

Yeah, that's a solid name there, but in North America... Toyota's had it's Toyota/Lexus/Scion/Daihatsu brands... the main Japanese car companies have all pulled the different brand names in North America at least.

FWIW, pretty sure the R31 Skyline was badged as a Datsun in South Africa.
