Do you guys know the history of that car? Its a pretty important one in the history of the Z seeing as its either a single digit VIN or perhaps a pre-production car. There are many many things that are different on that car than any other one built. I've seen it in person and its not just a thrown together race car from the '70s. Its one of the few Datsuns ever allowed to race the Monterey Historics also.

    x2

Eligibility for exclusive racing series makes quite a big diffence to an old racer's value. You could build a 240Z to the same spec for less, but if you can't enter the cool events you want, then you're screwed.

doubtless, but i don't think this is relevant to this car or the sale of this car at this price or the monterey historics, although the seller may want a prospective (wealthy) buyer to think otherwise

I know nothing of the history of Zeds really, but how can that be true?
Since Zeds were introduced in 1969?
how can it be a "single digit VIN" or a pre-production car....if he has listed it as a 1974????
because according to his website he designed, constructed, and tested a Datsun 240Z prototype for the IMSA Camel GT Series.

    The dating is curious.

One third in to that blurb though Dan, it says; "The chassis of this car was the first 240Z imported to the United States in 1970"

Without seeing evidence of this, it's all word of mouth.

Believe me though man, you don't want to get into Z car battles with Americans (you'll just waste your breathe/finger dexterity). It was designed FOR them, don't you know!?

...seeing as I quite like wasting my breathe...

Is there anyone who has more direct history on this car? The blurb is to have us believe that it's still an L24 and it's producing 400hp? really?

A well tweaked stroker might get there but a well tweaked stroker also has another .7 (3.1), .8 (3.2), .9(3.3) litres over and above the 2.4.
