my son just bought himself a new Honda

 well, new to him anyway.

'88 Prelude, $1200 cash, odo reads 88k and there's a oil change sticker on the door jamb from '95 with the mileage recorded as 66k so we think it's original.

Had Sears tires on it......? and two were rotten so we had 'em swapped out before we made the 40 mile trip home......which it executed flawlessly BTW!!!!

Hey where is the check/drain plug on this thing's manual transmission?

I want to drain it and refill with synthetic.

Do yourself a big favor: Find (and see if you can remove) the fill plug first. 8)

my advice would be not to fill it with synthetic unless you want leaks... synthetic has to many detergents that will lessen up gunk and expose leaks, so if you want to do that replace the seals... also like datsunfreak said find it first and good luck on the removal (thats if it looks like it hasnt been removed)... my honda though :tu:

ya, don't use synthetic in these early Honda Transmissions.....regular 10W40 is what you want to use. The drain plug is a large bolt (I think its a 17mm head) in the passenger side of the transmission. To fill you need a syphon gun and you fill to the edge of the threads of the filler hole. Its on the same side a few inches up from the drain bolt.

    Moved to proper section.

Looks like a really clean example!

I agree with the others. Don't use synthetic unless you are putting in new oil seals.

Do not use syn. In that car. Not in the tranny or engine. Both of them you want to use 10-30 or 10-40 conve oil

You'll be fine running Honda MTF. I believe it's synthetic, and I've been running it in my Accord's transmission (which I pulled from a 1g Prelude) for a couple years now. Hasn't leaked a drop, and the Honda MTF will make the shifting much smoother.
