    1983 Toyota RS110 Crown Super Saloon 2.0

    Greetings JNC! Newbie here. I have lurked here for quite some time and finally made my first post when i finally figured out how to post pictures :lol:

    This is my 1983 Toyota RS110 Crown with the original 5R engine (4-cylinder 2.0-liters) with a 4-speed manual tranny. Independent double wishbone front suspension.

    Got her in 2002. Minor body repairs thru the years. New paint in 2007. All stock except for the mags, tachometer, electronic distributor (upgraded from the original points-distributor), and seat covers.

    Crowns are built like bricks. This one has the ladder frame chassis. That's what i like about her. Drives like a tank.

    She ain't a looker but she's all mine. Tadaaah . . .

    VERY cool! 8)

    I'm suprised they put a 4cyl in something that big. How well does it get around? For that matter, how much does it weigh?

    Wish we got those in the US though. 8)

    Weighs about 1,650 kg (around 3,400+ lbs). I agree, body is too heavy for the engine. Sluggish on 1st and 2nd gears but power and speed picks up on 3rd. Should be driven nice and cool but i often gun the engine like it was a race car. Surprisingly, the bulletproof 5R engine can take the punishment Sometimes i dream it had the M-series 6-cyl like the ones in Japan.


    You had similar-looking cars there in the US. I got my inspiration when I bought her from the Blues Brothers mobile police car

    Haha, there's a world of difference between a '74 Monaco and a Toyota Crown though. And honestly... '74 and '75 Dodge Monacos are pretty rare these days. People who look for them for Blues Brothers clones usually end up using something else because they can't find one.

    I'm sure you could swap a larger engine in there if you wanted, even within the Toyota family. I'm not to knowledgeable on the 5R, I should look it up. Is it related to the 18R/20R/22R engine family?

    Still, it's definitely a very, very, very cool car. I've seen some sharp lowered ones before. 3,400 is rather heavy, but that's not the end of the world either. My cars are all much heavier still, haha. ops:

    Yes, you’re right. The 5R engine is from the line of Toyota’s R engine family (18R, 20R, and 22R the final version) produced from 1953 thru 1995.

    The 5R has a chain-driven camshaft controlling overhead valves via pushrods in a non-cross flow head (intake and exhaust on the same side).

    Specs: 1,994 cc (121.7 Cu In ), carbureted, 4 Cyl In Line, OHV
    Power: 95 Hp at 5,400 RPM
    Torque: 110 Ft-Lb at 3,000 RPM

    It is slow but bulletproof (cast iron head and block). It also idles very quietly at its normal 750 RPM. One of the quietest engines I have seen.

    Thanks KresSlyda180. We also have Cressidas here in the Philippines. Between Crowns and Cressidas, the Cressida has the sleeker and sexier body.

    hi guys and ignition gurus,

    i need your opinions. My tachometer's needle is never steady at idle. It wiggles between 600rpm to 750rpm while idling.

    i am thinking it may be caused by either a fault in the carburetor or just very old electrical wiring. if its the carburetor, i am willing to buy a new one for USD 205. On the other hand, an overhaul of the car's whole wiring system will cost me about the same. but due to budget, i like to do only one.

    any suggestions how to cure the wiggling idle rpm ?
