    Help with 1960 SPL212 Fairlady!!!!!!!

Hello, I'm new to this forum, hope someone can help. I'm looking at a 1960 Datsun Fairlady SPL212, in good shape, no rot in a warm garage for 15 years. But it lost original engine, I will know more about the car maybe this weekend. A friends mother owns it. They brought it with them from Japan where they use to live to the states. It was origialy brought to Japan by a GI. I have a working knowledge of cars having owned BMW 20002s Alfa's and a few older Porsche's in the past, but there is not much info, or at least that i have found on the web yet about value or things to look for in buying a Datsun made in Japan for the Japanese market. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to fix it up, but i'm not sure what to offer them. Thanks, Steve

Try posting on the forum at www.311s.org We have a very active forum, and at least one person has a 212. Those are rare cars and parts are hard to come by. I wish I could help more, but I really don't know what parts interchange between the 310 or 311 roadsters (I don't think any, but I might be wrong.)

There were very few of them made, and fewer still in the US. I have seen one, and it had an A series engine or perhaps an R16 (I can't remember) I think there is one guy in Texas who has one.

    Only 200

I think I read that there were only about 280 made. Steve

DOWNHILL AKINA CHALLENGE DRIFT BATTLE "WHAT THE HECK&qu

Call me square...(can't figure out how to post a square on this site) but why in hell!!! would anyone want to wreck a good set of tires going around corners sideways? When everyone knows the fastest way from point A to B is a straight line. Back to the car in question. My friend found the web site that mentions 2 SLP212 unrestored sold a few years back for 100 grand, now he thinks he might be sitting on a gold mine. I mentioned that the NADA guide says, $4,900. As soon as he can find the key to the windowless garage that its in we might actually get to see the car. Steve

If I remember correctly the bodies are fiberglass. Restoring one could be like restoring a Lotus Elan or early Corvette. If its a complete car and in good but neglected shape, you might be in luck. Clean things up, lube things that should be lubed and you might have a driver for not a horrible amount of money. If you need parts, you might be in trouble.

    Good luck,
    Will

Because it takes skill. Also, the line is straight, the car isn't
