My 1978 mazda 929 Wagon... any suggestions?

OK so this is my little ride... finally took some pictures!

    And another one!

    And from the other side!

Its got the 1.8 litre VC engine, but it goes alright! I got it roadworthy to make it my daily driver. It turns heads at the university i study at, people love it!

It has had a bump sometime in its life (the bonnet isn't quite square as you can see if you look hard) and there is some filler patching up on the inside.
I took it get a wheel alignment, because it was pulling to the left. the guy said a wheel alignment wouldn't fix it because the right wheel was sitting in front of the left wheel for some reason and thought i may be able to get some adjusting bushes to remedy this. Does anyone know what he is talking about? I got the alignment done because I put in new tie rod ends and idler arm bushes but thats about the extent of my knowledge of the steering mechanisms in a vehicle!!!

I wanted to put some headers on... I sent an ebay guy a question but he hasn't responded to my questions about whether these would fit!

The other thing I was thinking about it is a weber carby - about 500-600 dollars off ebay, ready to bolt on. Has anybody else done this and do they recommend it?

Great old 929 wagon, certainly has to be one of the last of that first early shape. Glad you have kept it original with the roof rack and sunvisor. Love it! Leave it like that please!!

Firstly, those extractors on ebay will not fit the VC engine. Shouldn't be too hard to track some down though, I will see if anyone I know can help. Secondly, I would suggest spending that much on a Weber carby would not make that big a difference to justify the cost. Not saying the carby swap is not a good idea, just could be done cheaper.

The JNC user you need to speak to here in Brisbane is B1500boy. He owns this era 929 and will know the answer to all your questions.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I do plan on keeping it all original and unmolested. I'm going for the old school cruiser look, i'm thinking venetians maybe?
I love the roofrack because i'll be able to chuck a surfboard or something on top (when i learn how to surf  )

I'm pretty new to making engines go faster - i can only fix them it seems. what do you mean doing it cheaper?
when i hear the word cheaper it always gets my attention what can i say, i'm a university student

Oh PS see the strip running along either sides of the vehicle - it has a piece missing on the rear door - if you look close, following from the front of the vehicle it goes along from the headlight over the front doors then onto the back and bends down, then it gets to a point and is meant to go back up. the curves are in the body, but that section of strip is missing on both sides. Does anyone know where I could get some of that or has it from an old rx4 or something?

or should i give up now and pull it all off?

...or ignore the missing sections *sigh*

It looks great! The visor, roof rack, and mud flaps really add character. :tu:

THose side strips were an optional extra and I dont think they are available any more and I just took my set off and binned it they were shit anyway. So your options are keep the same or rip the rest of but than cleaning the double side tape off a major pain. Good luck

Ps you should come to our ALL JAP SHOW on the 20th June look in the events section for more details.
    Cheers

those webers on Ebay are an absolute rip off.

Find a 32/36 off an old escort or falcon, modify them to use a choke cable instead of being water choke or whatever, get an adaptor from redline to bolt onto the factory inlet manifold and you are done.

Will it be worth it? Probably not!

If the wheel alignment guy couldn't alignment you need to do the following:

find either a professional that does race cars or a really old bloke that knows his stuff and get them to see if the front of the car is square. Something may be bent somewhere.
