    1988 HR31 Skyline GTS coupe

    Hi there,
    My name is Mark, I'm from Australia and I drive this 1988 HR31 Skyline coupe, it was imported from Japan in the mid 90's.

    While my car doesn't make the 25 year requirement, I do love old Japanese cars of all sorts (though I have to say my main interest is the 70's and 80's, and particularly the group A racing era).
    Previously I've owned a Datsun B10 1000 2 door sedan and a Datsun 810 "200B SX" 4 door.

    I think the HR31's have some place as a classic car, they really are the end of the classic skyline era; the final evolution of the C10/C110/C210/R30 chassis style, not to mention that their tenure in the Nissan range fittingly finished with the end of Emperor Showa's reign.

    Anyway, here it is. I'm in the process of "resto-modding" it so to speak, but I'm trying to keep it in period as best as possible (with a few exceptions like a modern turbocharger and modern suspension technology). Mechanically its fairly stock with a late model VG30DET turbine, 3" cat back system with a single race muffler (read: loud!) and a bit more boost than stock.
    The body is completely standard, as is the interior (I was thankfully able to source genuine parts to replace the gaudy modifications the previous owner had made).
    Its rolling on 17x8" and 17x9" Lehrmeister Stich 2 piece rims I acquired through yahoo auctions Japan.

    This model features a "1.5" generation RB20DET, 5 speed 71C box, clutch type R200 LSD, and first generation HICAS (which I am removing!). The basic chassis is trailing arm IRS/Mac strut front as per the previous generations of Skylines C10 onward.

    Future plans are:
    - fibreglass GTS-R homologation model replica front lip and rear deck spoiler, and front bumper vents.
    -larger intercooler, injectors and more boost
    -Get around to fitting the 350lb front/310lb rear (and substantially lower!) springs that are sitting in my loungeroom, and locking out the HICAS system with solid bushes.
    -3" turbo back side exhaust

    Ditto, great car! I think there are one or two of these here in the UK. I like the R30 and R31 models a lot.

    No, we don't mind at all! We're not Nazis about the 25 year rule :lol:

    Our articles will focus on cars past the 25yr mark, but we love to see Japanese cars of all kinds, just like your beautiful R31. Although the later ones like the R32 and R34 seem to get all the attention, I love the 80s ones as well. They have that great unique 80s Japanese styling. Thanks for posting up your pics, and we hope to see more!

    Very nice! Another '80's wedge coupe from Nissan. At least that's what I have always called my Z31 hardtops. A friend of a friend has a Paul Newman signature edition Skyline from that era and it is really neat to see them.

    Not heaps to report, I've just played with the suspension a bit. Front has 350lb/40mm lower springs, and I've adapted S13 JIC coilovers with 325lb springs to the rear. I have a carbon fibre strut brace coming from Japan (JIC), and cusco cambertops are here but I need to mod the spacers as they don't fit over the shaft of my shock inserts.

    I've got the GTS-R wing now, new front bumper skin, and new vents for the front bumper. I'll fit them and do some paint touch up work/rust prevention soon.

    They aren't as, erm, chrome in the flesh, in fact they're quite tasteful. But yes, slightly more contemporary than I'd like (they're only about 13 or so years old).
    They do grow on you. They are a good offset and width, and are quite light.
