    My Intro - San Diego 1971 4dr Datsun 510.

This is post number one for me. Just thought I'd sign up to keep up to date with the latest tips, techniques, and (yes) even trends for my classic car.

    The car:

    1971 Datsun 510 4door 1600 L16 4spd manual

    History:

My dad bought the car in the mid 70's and then it stop working in the early 90's. It has been in the family my whole life - before I was born. My dad never picked it back up again and it has been sitting in a field for the past 20 years. Read an article about a clean 510 and it got me thinking whatever happened to our family's old car. A quick phone call to my dad, and he told me I can have it. After a recent plane trip up there, I towed the car out of the dirt with all tires flat and I'm carefully planning on restoring it and passing it down to my kids eventually. It's actually in better shape than I thought and I'm pretty excited. Now I need to find a way to get the car down here San Diego and give it much needed love and attention in my garage.

Looking forward to a long and enjoyable build ahead of me.

Thanks for the welcome. I just couldn't stand to see the car sit and rot anymore. It's been with us our whole life. I could even remember riding in the back seat as a child and using the child seat belt restraint. It's still there. I'm really excited.

I'm planning on trying to salvage the motor and get everything looking new or better than day it was bought, perhaps a few engine upgrades to get me on freeway faster and a little bit of a lower stance, and of course some rims, to compliment that era.

Here are some pictures I loaded from my cardomain page:

You know you can post pics in the Nissan Garage section . It's cool that your car is more that just a car... it's a family heirloom!

    Welcome to the JNC! :tu:

Thanks again for the welcome. I see some awesome build / restoration threads on here. I'm learning a lot from just reading them and getting ideas. I also plan on attending JCCS this year as well, as a spectator.

Can anyone recommend shops to send my carb or parts to get rebuilt and cleaned up?? Anything in San Diego, area perhaps(save on shipping)??

You may wish to consider an upgrade to a weber carb. They are occasionally on ebay.

However, there is a great carb shop in San Diego:

San Diego Carburetor & Fuel Injection, Inc.
6622 University Avenue, San Diego, California, 92115
    Phone: (619) 265-2400

It's pretty obvious that I know close to nothing about carbs. I already recieved a quote from Gary at SDcarb.com Those guys are very helpful and the price is reasonable for a refurbish/recondition of my L16 single carb.

First things first. Get the car towed down here from Oregon and buy a Chiltons manual and get to work on it.

    I'm learning little by little.
