    1971 RT62 18RG Corona Mark II

Hello all, been lurking here long enough thought I'd finally throw up one of my projects!

I had the opportunity to pick this car up for a Datsun 510 Wagon shell I had laying around. Supposedly the engine was seized, but otherwise the car was in really good condition. After getting the car home a goofing with it for a few hours, I was able to get the 18RC running great.

Even though the engine runs good, I will be putting my 18RG into the car, lowering it, some nice old school rims and who knows what else.

Here she is all loaded up and headed to her new home

Custom screwdriver to hold the choke closed! Hmmm not getting any fuel maybe

Pulled the jets out...the main jet was plugged up solid, so it was only getting fuel through the idle circut

Engine that will be going in the car

Overall...after real close inspection, car looks really solid with only some rust on the rear trunk lid

I'm thinking this is going to make a great daily driver!!

Nice. This looks like the one that was for sale for a long time on craigslist... The 18RG will bolt up but the tranny mount may not match. I had to install a set of mounts on my frame rail and change out the driveshaft. oh wait a ,minute.... i installed an A40 with the 18RG in mine!

The throttle cable will work with some messing around. re route the temp sensor and call it a day!

What You should do is put that 18rg in an Old School Celica and refresh the stock Corona to it Old School VIP status. That would be pimp. Just my opinion. Could be wrong

Well after coming back from TORC I was extremely motivated to get of my bum and get some work done. I got the RG out of my 74' Celica and dropped into the Corona for a test fit. Engine mounts, shifter location were spot on but I will need to fab a transmission mount for the W-50 as its mount holes sit too far back for the stock mount.

I must say I love the way it looks on there...nothing better than a built 18RG in a 4 door Corona.....one of my good friends is extremely against the idea and thinks I should leave everything bone stock. I'm thinking lowered, celica supras, and some suspension upgrades, this will be a 4 door any Granny would love to drive!

After getting the tranny mount fabbed, the motor will be coming back out and the engine bay will be getting cleaned up and repainted.

Oh yeah and get the fuel system ran and installed - sorry bad iPhone pic

Hopefully I'll have everything cleaned, painted and installed by next week.....4 doors of fury coming soon!

Nothing I've seen or read would suggest the 4-doors' came with the twin-cam, but I'm not extremely knowledgeable on all things corona's

Heck finding information on this model at all has proved quite daunting, seems it's sort of a rare bird.

Here are some of the engine specs:

    - fresh RG block bored to 92.5mm
    - 304/304 HKS cams
    - 92.5mm HKS high comp race pistons with new rings
    - 250 head ported and polished
    - new Ferrea OS stainless steel valves
    - short intake manifold
    - matched and rebuilt Weber 45 DCOE 13 sidedraft carbs
    - balanced rods with APR bolts
    - new crankshaft and bearings
    - lightened flywheel with APR bolts
    - new complete gasket kit installed
    - new pilot and release bearings
    - Centerforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate

No, only the GSS Hardtops. About time someone made one, me thinks.

I can make a GSS knock off with the parts I have. I can start off with the GSL I got the other day. Unless you look for the RT-75, no one will know...
