Do you just drill a hole in the shock body?

You can, just don't put your face in front of it when you do.

The oil inside is supposed to be under pressure, but I doubt it is after all these years. :tu:

I have '77 rt105 Corona and in my bumper shocks was what looked like plastic snow  Just drill a hole in the base(closest to the bumper) and then hit the stud(car)side with a socket to push in....Just make sure you rivet the shaft afterwards so the bumper cant move...

YOU WILL LOSE IMPACT CUSIONING!

----But you prolly knew this

FWIW, I compressed mine (off the car) in a vise, then tack welded them in the compressed position.

=OK I just did this. All tips were correct.Full compression puts you even to just past the metal filler piece.

=This is real nice on the rear as the rubber end caps fill in the depressions stamped into the rear quarters.

=Oh and I had the snow also which probably served the same fuction as an oil filled shock??
