    My new 1980 RX-7 10th Anniversary Edition.

I thought I better just start it off with pictures. The black and gold FB is a GSL that belongs to my brother. It's been in my possession the past 20 months due to some legal issues. Which was actually the best thing for the car. Seeing as I had the time to scrub down the heinously dirty 12A and accompanying bay. As well as add a few go-fast bits

But I digress. The real story here is the red car, my newly acquired 10th Anniversary Edition SA22C. Now these cars are a bit of a mystery. They were only offered in 1980, and as I understand from all the data I've read Mazda made 8000 10th Anniversary Edition cars. A mix of GLC's, 626's and RX-7's. The rare model registry over on RX7club lists 5 10AE RX-7's not including mine. So as far as rare J-tin goes its about safe to say that these are rare as rocking horse sh!t.

    I am quite pleased

That's what confused me too at first, especially since Mazda made a 10th anniversary FC as well.

At first I thought it was too good to be true, but it's a real 1 owner 31,000 original mile 10AE, I pulled it out of a pasture in Wyoming, original factory white-walls and everything. All of the rubber seals, bushings, and hoses where just baked to death, but mechanically the things a frickin time capsule. The last time it was on the road was '91. I still can't believe it's in my garage

Started the process of cleaning out the bay, as well as doing a little investigation of the 12A, the last time the car was ran daily was back in '91. the last time it was even started up was about 8 years ago, however, when I asked the PO if he had prelubed the apex seals before "firing her up" he made the face I dreaded most. Pure confusion. So basically he satrted it up after more then 10 years without any sort of prelube on the apex seals whatsoever.

I hope they didn't blow out the exhaust :? But since it only had 31k on it I have my fingers crossed that the engine was in decent enough nic that when he dry started it it was okay.

Time to break out the powerfoam and Mystery oil and start turning.

    Wish me luck!

Haha Apex Seals, what are those? Did he say why he stopped using the car?

According to him the fuel pump would cut out after a couple minutes. He swore up and down it ran super smoothly though, I guess we'll just have to see. Fingers crossed!!

Beautiful car! I've got an '80 RX-7 as well. Love these things to death. Any updates on the running status? :tu:
