Hakos without front flares: Front Watanabe Width ?

    Hi all,

Those of you with Hakos that don't have front flares, what size Watanabes are you running?

Typical max front Wats size is 15x7 +21 F8 Type
Check out the white car below:

This is going to sound crazy, but in the second white pic, the main part of the spoke looks vertical.
If you compare with the silver pics below, it looks like the main part of the spoke dives back IN to the rim just a bit.
I'm guessing that owing to the fact that 14x6.5 +14mm has 7mm less positive offset, it basically has just a hair more lip even though the rim is half an inch narrower....

Check out the silver car below:

    What do you guys think?
    Am I imagining things?

Anyone have 15x6.5 +14 that they can measure up / provide detailed pics?

My new fronts are 14x7 my old wheels were 14x6.5
The 7 with my 205 is a tight fit. I think a 195 would fit better. I can bring my old 6.5 with me to the show if you want to compare.

    Hey Reid

On your 14"s does the lip look different between 6.5 width and 7 width?

Do you know if you have Type A, Type B, or Type F8/F8F?
They all come in different offsets...
    Which did you get?

Sorry my old wheels are 6j not 6.5j. They are type b. the lip goes in one goggle then the spoke is on the second goggle before it gets to the center barrel. On my new 7j wheels the spoke is in the barrel area about a 1/4 inch.

It all seems to depend on whether your Watanabe's are type A, B, R or F.

If you look at the pictures at the top of the link below 14 x 6 +20 in Types A & B look totally different though obviously must fill the same space. I guess that's why the angle of the spokes look different. Watanabe say max size on the front of a stock arched Hako is 14 x 6 +20.

There's also this little page from Watanabe Japan. Scroll down for Hako fittments.

    Good luck, Dan.

    Dan

I'm very familiar with the Japanese Watanabe site - the pics I put in my opening post are from their site, specifically the section showing owner's rides with their wheels fitted.

    Type A & Type B are only available from 10" to 14"
I was specifically asking about 15" which is only available in Type F8 (or Type F8F for front wheel drive, high positive offset applications).

Both of the cars I pictured are using 15"
The first with max size of 15x7 +21
    The second with 15x6.5 +14

Mine are 14x6.5 front 14x9 rears can't remember the exact offset I wanna say rears were 0 or +10 and fronts are -14 and they are the R-type. They have pretty much no lip on them at all but the spokes don't look super strait maybe slight concave. Although I occasionally feel like the fronts are too small being 14s I think with alittle bit of lowering it will be better. Ill try to get some close ups.

    yes please, post some pics!!
because if i went back to a 14, i'd get your size i think...

    according to http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/pay/al81014.htm

    if your 14x6.5 is a TypeA, it's +9.5mm offset

if your 14x6.5 is a TypeB, it has +14.5mm offset, so it'll have less lip than TypeA

then there's the TypeF8, with also +14.5mm offset

if your 14x6.5 has next to no lip, then it's probably a TypeF8F, with either 30, 35, or 40mm of positive offset
This is not likely though as F8F usually end up on FWD cars only...
