    70` Datsun 1800L C30

Hey all. Time to make a small contribution to the JNC Datsun garage

Reading about Stevs great resto job on his L30 made me want one of these again,
and when a decent example turned upp for sale, I bought it.

It has some flaws (mostly interior) but cant be too picky since they`re fairly rare.
Drove her 400K home when picking upp and it was great fun.

Slight u-joint noise and leaky gas filler hose, but presice steering and good handling. A bit less grunt than I remember but havent driven one in close to 27? years. Exhaust is mostly homemade and appears too thin pipe has been used.
One muffler is deleted but still fairly quiet.
Any pointers for parts is welcome. JDM taillights would be mean
    A couple of pics:

    that is looking good!
Stev has a great project on his car indeed, i have a C30 myself but thats not looking half as good as this one.

Any plans with it? Or just keep it as is and drive it as much as possible?

Thanks, yea looks good on the outside, body`s fairly sound.

Just read your project thread. Will be a mean machine. Time for an update or on a break?

My plans with this one... will depend on whatever parts I stumble across
Will try to keep it on the road as mods / maintenace /repairs are done
Even tho its 43 years old, its a great ride and belongs on the road

    Get her tidied upp
Ive got a set of 7x14 melber pentas that might look ok on it

bring the front down a notch but nothing extreme
If a g20 comes along, maybe get a mild cam grind and sidedrafts
    build a decent exhaust
look into the suba r160 lsd mod
Saw Stev had found some polybushes so may look into that
Dont like the front seats - worn- wernt good in my previous one either
Any idea if 300zx struts will fit these ?
Anyone know boltspacing of zx steeringarms to strut bolts ?

    Cheers

"Too thin" exhaust piping may well be factory original. Nissan used very thin exhaust piping. Aftermarket piping is usually thicker, that's the good news. The bad news is that fitting thicker exhaust tubing to the factory manifolds and mufflers / resonators takes an experienced exhaust system mechanic. It can be done! I had to replace the exhaust down pipe on my 1967 RL411 sedan last year. The correct pipe was never really available as spare parts. After all, Nissan never figured anyone would keep the car longer that 10 years. A good mechanic successfully fabricated a replacement section from "standard" thick wall tubing.

Did a bit of comparing of c30/280zx struts before the forum collapse - this is going from memory so..

    same strut tube diameter 51mm
same disc to strut angle 10,1 - 10 deg.
same steeringarm to strut bolt spacing - about 80mm
Different spring O.D, zx is wider
different diameter hub center 73 ? - 64mm?.. not sure about those figures
complete zx strut with brake weight is about 29 kg
brakes of zx are to big for 13" rims - looked like 14" will work

    some brake shots:

Most people either remove the spring seat for threaded collars, or remove it and weld the stock spring seat onto the 280ZX strut. :tu:

That's a good thing. Means bigger, beefier bearings too.

They came stock with 14" wheels, and I have yet to come across a 14" wheel that doesn't fit. :tu:

FYI, there are a handful of 13" wheels that do fit, and a few more if you're willing to grind on the caliper a bit. :P
