With his new Hako in the house, a friend commented recently on JAF badges. I'd never really paid them any attention, except to stick the standard issue adhesive plastic one on my tool box, and perhaps to note the full front grille badges - as opposed to the rear window stickers (there is a placement etiquette) were the domain wing-mirrored oji-san. They seem to show up on cars outside of Japan too, often strangely placed. These days when you join, you get the rear window sticker:
If you pay extra you get the front badge (plastic):
Presumably, if you paid extra on your extra around the 40-year anniversary you could buy the commemorative front grille badge, to either fit to your car or place on your desk on the included very tasteful wood stand (impress your friends at parties!):
Some get a nice aged look:
Rare in good condition, and perhaps over USD500 these days the 1964 Tokio Olympics one is pretty neat (brass & enamel):
No idea if I will fit it or not - not being a right-wing oji-san - but I picked up this nicely aged Tokio Olympics version for a fraction of what it should have cost:
Assume there's more variations out there too. Neko.
