Blur's Rotary Pickup from Colorado to Brisbane Australia

From the first time id ever seen a REPU in pictures, I knew there would be a day that one would end up in the garage. So after searching on and off for a few years, it became clear that they are not that easy to find in good shape. Then one day late last year I got lucky and this gem turned up on Craigslist

    pictures from the ad

After getting in contact via phone, the seller Jim was a very accommodating seller and a dream to deal with.
The car was owned by his uncle since new who was a technician with Hewlett Packard corporation in Colorado. In actual fact the car must have been a company car for him as Hewlett Packard paid for the truck in the purchase receipts. All the original manuals, service books, window sticker (sales receipt) and plenty of other associated paperwork came with the car. There was even a receipt for the princely sum of $150 for the dealer fitted American racing wheels and body stripe.

So a deal was done and the car was put on its journey to the land down under. Jim even took a few pics of this for me when the interstate transport picked the car up from his home to take it to the Long Beach port in California.

And after about 3 months of waiting, spending heaps of bucks in container shipping and another delay in customs, We have a new arrival!

towie Pete you sexy beast. This tow truck moves more Mazdas in Brisbane than no other, hey Danny..

Its always a gamble to purchase an old vehicle sight unseen from pictures and a sellers word. I had a very good feeling that the condition would be great, the truth is it was better in the flesh that Id first imagined. A good solid, unrestored and original paint vehicle with no major rust or damage, very happy.

Matching numbers 13B.. more to come in this department.

    Still under 68000 miles.

Battery box door, has a little strap to hold the door open in place.

And a parting shot for now. I just love the brash tailgate lettering, an American touch to a very Japanese truck. More to come.

Wow.. I have just posted a wanted ad, and am currently in the early stages of speaking to someone in the US to do exactly the same and bring a REPU to Perth!! Have a mate just flown over for a holiday, trying to get him to swing by and take a look at the car in person.

I remember seeing this one on Craigslist - with pictures of some kind of Xmas parade in the tray.. Great buy!

Do you mind if I pick your brain on the logistics side??

    Cheers!

Yes I have the pictures of it in the Christmas parade!

Im no expert in logistics, I had an experienced agent that specialised in USA importing only and thats really important. The first agent I was in contact with had no idea. In the end I used Peter Leahy Custom Imports, and it all worked out pretty well. The best thing you can do is find one as close as possible to the west coast of USA, preferably LA. Internal shipping costs about a $1 per mile, and probably more if the car doesnt run. America is a really big country, there were a few that were up north or near Florida, and by the time you factor in the cost it all adds up very quickly, even Colorado Springs is more than a 1000 miles from LA. And get your import approval in nice and early too! Happy to help if you want more info just shout out, Ill do my best to answer.

Interesting, it has a 1300 coupe dash cluster. Nice.

Looks like a solid buy, well done.

I'm not normally one for left hand drive, but seeing as though its the only way you can buy one, then so be it! Its actually not too bad to drive with, just need a little more caution turning left but otherwise its pretty much the same, although drive thrus require an assistant. Any more details on the other one imported Dave?
