1970 Mazda 1800 Cross reference for parts needed

I had my 1800 on the road last summer and put on some 400 miles. It is running very well but now I would like to start replacing some of the 40 year old parts. I have been slowly making some progress on getting parts including cross referencing some suspension parts that were used in the Ford Courier (idler arm and bushings) but I have now hit a wall. Some of the parts I am looking for include
-front brake rotors (I have two different ones on there now),
-shocks (front and rear), coils and connecting hardware,
-air filter (I even tried K&N to find something close by dimensions but no luck),
-original steering wheel (the sun literally disintegrated the plastic around the metal frame of the steering wheel I have on the car now),
-that stupid little part that you manually pull up or down to open or lock the doors (all of the aftermarket ones that I can find are the wrong thread size),
-any other of the thousands of small parts that maybe useful.

Any other vehicle I can cross reference parts from?

Many thanks if you can help.

    Interesting thread!!

I'm also looking for all thinkable cross reference parts for my 1500!!

When it comes to the lock knobs and the steering wheel, I can help out ... The only thing is that I live in Norway, so shipping of the steering wheel may be higher than the value of the wheel!! :?

    Hi KjetilB

I am very interested in what you may have. I am not worried about distance. I have a friend that is visiting his parents in Belgium this summer and could bring me back the parts. If the steering wheel is the right match let me know what you want for it. I would include a picture but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

I would appreciate a list of the parts or part numbers that you have.

    Thanks

I don't have so many parts that I need a list.
I can help You with a rather smooth original steering wheel, and I also have several used doors, with the lock knobs intact, and in good shape.
Belgium is south in Europe, I'm located far north ... We have to look into shipping to compare the cost both to Your place, and to Belgium... But of course, Your friend can take a trip up to Norway, and see our lovely nature! He wouldn't regret that trip! 8)
I'll post a pisture of only the steering wheel, but here is it still in the car:

That's it! Our interiors are an exact match. The steering wheel looks 99.9% better then the one I have. I would be very much interested in buying it from you. Perhaps we can do the rest of this by email. You can reach me at 4davewalsh@gmail.com.

    Thanks so much.

    BugBoy,

How much luck did you have cross referencing parts between the Ford Courier and your Mazda. I just picked up a 1969 1500 Sedan and it looks like it needs to have some of the brake and steering components replaced.

    rcobb

Where did you find the 1500?

I have a spread sheet of the parts that I managed to find so far. I had more luck finding Courier parts then actual 1800 parts. I would be happy to email that to you.

I believe kjetilB (forum member name) has several 1500's and had to do some brake and suspension repairs months ago. I gave him the information of the parts that I used but I don't know how he made out. You should contact him as well. I do know that the interiors are identical. I suspect, from my repair manual, many of the parts must be alike.

If you want me to email my parts list to you let me know your email.

    Good luck

    Dave

Picked it up on a local sale. I've been looking for a 1500/1800 for a while as it was the first car I drove but most I found where automatics with bench seats and in poor condition.

The car is in good condition but needs brake work and suspension.

I'll PM my email to you.
