Hello all! Ive been keeping up with this site for a while now but this is my first post so bear with me. Anyways, in the past several years I've became a big fan of 60-70's Japanese cars. Last year I ran across a great deal on a 1974 Mazda rx-4 with 26,000 original miles on it for an insanely cheap amount of money( I did have to travel 12hrs to get it though). The car is complete with every piece of trim except for the muffler for which we stupidly cut off and left somewhere in Illinois( it was a bit rusty and it needed to be removed so it could go on car dolly, still I should have kept it.) The car had been parked and mostly covered under a shed since the early 80's. Ok fast forward, my father and I are very ignorant to rotary engines. He has worked on cars all of his life but this is a bit of a different beast. The car runs but very irregular, backfires etc. The carburetor needs to be rebuilt but we can not find for the life of us a "Complete" rebuild kit for the stock 4barrel hitachi. It needs new diaphragms/gaskets, the whole shebang. This is where your knowledge comes in dear community. Do you have any suggestions on websites or other good communities(ones that are not snobs or elitists) that would be helpful. Maybe you guys have some tips on what to look for on how to get an old rotary back to normal. Thanks for your time and I appreciate any info. Take care and good hunting. Wish we could save all of these wonderful pieces of art.
