    Re: sr5 rear

Not sure what rear axle TE27's came with in the US, but quite likely it already has a T series rear? Therefore you are swapping out a T series to put in a T series.

Obvious differences are that the AE86 is located with trailing arms and has coil springs and a panhard rod whereas the TE27 has no trailing arms or panhard rod and leaf springs. Other issue is that the AE86 rear is substantially wider.

It isn't as if it hasn't been done before, i.e in Australia we didn't have T engined TE27's, rather K engined KE25's, and a number of people have gone this route as we have no choice.

But think seriously about why you are doing it. You need to narrow the diff, discard trailing arm brackets and spring plates and weld on leaf spring plates.

If you just want rear discs, there are other ways of doing that. If you want to install an LSD, then yes i would do it. But if you already have a T series, you can bolt a zenki LSD centre into your existing rear. Possibly you may need to remove a little from the axles.

So the information you need to find out is what type of rear assembly you have in the car at the moment, and what are you planning for the car.

Look on your vin plate inside the engine bay, by the trans/diff you'll have something like T50/S292 or T292... the S or T is the diff type, 6.38" or 6.7"... if you don't have a vin plate inside teh engine bay look at the diff center to housing flange and count the number of bolt, 8 = S type 6.38"; 10 = T type 6.7".

Normally only real SR5 had the T type (same as a zenki GT-S AE86) and all the other had the S type (same as all SR5 AE86). As said above, the housing will not swap without extensive modding (shortening, cutting 4 links and welding leaf spring seat). But you can swap the diff center... but don't try to mix diff type, S goes with S and T goes with T.

if a AE86 rear will work, maybe consider getting a F313 from a MK1 Supra. common swap for AE86, F313 are LSD with discs and can take some abuse
