    Hot Hatches

I love hatchbacks, especially if they're hot hatches. I blame the original VW GTI. Awesome performance from a small hatchback that normal people could afford. Power to the people! So here are a few of my favorite hatches:

Honda Civic Type-R. Too good for us Uhmerrikans. This is the Mugen version.

Subaru WRX STi. One of the greatest hot hatches ever.

Not just any VW GTI, this is the W12 650 with a 650hp W12 engine in the back.

Another car too good for us Americans: The VW Scirocco GTI. This is the cup car.

The French do things differently, which is probably why I love them. This is the Renault Megane R.26R.

And here's the Renault Twingo 133 cup car.

I can't leave Italy out of the fun. This is the Alfa Romeo MiTO Quadrifoglio.

How about a hot hatch from Sweden? The C30 is a great car with a turbo inline-5.

The Mini Cooper JCW is the best little car BMW builds. This the 50th anniversary world championship edition.

This may not be a "hot" hatch, but this Lincoln C concept shows American designers haven't forgotten about the hatchback bodystyle.

*cough* your forgetting two that would absolutely destroy all the mentioned cars above [in standard form].

    Gen one Mazda MPS3

    Gen two MPS3

I hate FWD's in general, but if i HAD to get one, itd be the 3 hands down. Ive driven them and their the best compromise.

My friend had a MazdaSpeed3. Wonderful car. Very quick, fast, fun to drive. Hate the tranny, in that you push DOWN and back to get into reverse, so when you're going fast on twisty roads, you end up grinding gears because you exert some downward pressure on the shifter when shifting. OOPS. The Subies have it where you pull UP on the shifter to move into reverse. Don't know why Mazda went the other (wrong) way.

Very safe as well. Flipped it with 3 people in the car, none of us were injured.

I'd buy it if I could. I also hate FWD as it's the sporting anti-Christ, but damn... nothing like getting 38mpg on the freeway, with a 270hp hatchback (stock), and being able to cruise the freeway at 150mph.

Don't ask me how I know this. 8)

You asked for it, and you got it: Mazda3.

Ford Focus RS: why do we never get the best ones?

I like the looks of the upcoming CitroŽn DS3.

CitroŽn REVOLTe. Good car. Bad name.

Fiat 500 Abarth 695 Ferrari Tributo.

Hey, a good hot hatch we actually get: Mitsubishi Lancer sportback.

Seat Cupra R from VW's Spanish subsidiary.

What no love for the A3?

And if those don't make the case, this photo might...

I have owned a few "hot hatches" myself, two VW MK2 GTIs, a MK3 Golf, Mitsubishi Mirage, and currently a Nissan Versa. I love hatchbacks as they are small, fun, and can hold a lot of stuff.
