    1976 Mazda 929 coupe

The overhead console has three warning lights for Belt, Fuel & Door which don't seem to come on. I've checked the bulbs - they're fine.

Does anybody know if there is anything that typically goes wrong with these things?

1, Did you check the fuse?
2, when you got the car were they like that? (if so check the wiring, you never know whos cut up wires for gauges or some other accessory and then didn't put things back how they were supposed to be)

they were not always connected, it was an option for the lights to be operational or not

Fuses all look good. Wiring appears untouched.

This car is my uncle's and he's had it from new. He's almost eighty now and he's hardly used it. It's got 57,000 km on the clock and it's very unmolested so there's no DIY wiring to look out for.

The cabin lights weren't coming on when I opened the doors either, but I cleaned up the door switches (probably 36yo dried grease or wax) and they're operational again.

There's a silver relay or timer made by Yushin Seiki up there in the console. Can anybody tell me what it might be?

the little metal box (oscillator) is a timer relay for the belt/door lights on the roof console, the fuel low warning is a direct cable link to the fuel sender (which should be 3 pin) and the cable color is Yellow/blue stripe (negative feed) and Green/yellow (12+ feed)

This should be most of the plugs that should be plugged in (also a 4 pin plug)

That looks like a brilliant diagram. Thanks for that! I haven't for the life of me figured out why there was such a mass of wires up there when there were only five or so incoming wires from the ceiling. Your diagram should solve a few riddles.

Hopefully I'll have something positive to report back with soon.
