Somewhat urgent - C10 Skyline Front Lower Control Arm Pivot

    hi everyone...

so i was working on the red car tonight - changing out front lower control arm bushings was one of tonight's to-do's...
when i pulled both lower control arms, I noticed one side had much more worn out bushings than the other side... upon closer inspection i noticed the threads for the main nut were just about completely gone...

I tried cleaning up the threads with a die, but there's so little on there that i can tell the minute i torque a nut back on it'll give up the ghost...

so while i've already sent an email to Adam @ Feast asking him to see if Nissan still carries these in their inventory,
I wanted to check on here if anyone happens to have a spare pair ??

let me know... thanks in advance

Hey Eric just a thought, what if you were to step down the stud size and keep the same thread pitch? It looks to me like the stud is M12x1.0, correct? Would you be able to cut it down with say m11x1.0 die and get a matching lock nut?

Why don't you get a machine shop to overlay the thread with weldment, anneal it and cut the thread with a die again? just make sure the welds are done little by little to avoid overheating the whole shaft.

The bushes are the same as 240K, so I'd assume that the pivot thingy would be, too.

Why not try asking Datsport if they have one?

Before I go off and make custom bits, it would make sense to first check with Nissan and see if the part is still even available, right?
if it is, it's a day or two get it shipped to a Nissan dealership in Japan, plus another 4-5 days to get it shipped to California... not too bad...

If the part is NLA then I'll consider having something made up to match...

I have an ongoing great relationship with Adam @ Feast to get me the parts I need for my red car, so he's my first source.
I've never bought anything from Datsport before but will do so in the future...
For some reason I have a (possibly incorrect) feeling that getting parts from Australia would take longer than getting parts from Japan.

@EricR, the thread on the LCA pivot is M10x1.5 fyi - going to a different pitch wouldn't fix the fact that most of the threads are gone... I'd have to go to a size down and that's gets kinda small for the potential torque / weight on this nut when the car is in motion...

I bought a whole modified rear cross member from Datsport for my 510 and it only took 5 days to get to me via DHL.

Re: Somewhat urgent - C10 Skyline Front Lower Control Arm Pi

    FYI to all

These front lower control arm pivot bolts are No Longer Available from Nissan in Japan...
    So handle yours with care...

We drilled out the stud through the shoulder bolt, fitted a new stud, and welded it back in...
Works like a charm - good as new...

With poly bushings though it's a bit of a PITA to put it back in...
You run the risk of damaging the shoulder bolt threads as you whack the pivot bolt through the bushing and try to line up with the bolt hole it has to go through on the opposite side...

In hindsight, it might be easier to drill out the stud, and just run a long bolt.
That way you can whack in the old pivot bolt through the cross member and into the bushing, and once that's settled.. then you can wiggle in the long bolt (without damaging threads) and bolt it all together...
