1974 RA21 Toyota Celica ST Restoration

In Sept. 8, 2012, I made a deal to buy a 74 ST automatic. It has the best interior and exterior compared to my '71 and '72.

My car is silver with black interior and black vinyl roof, automatic and equipped with AC. Unfortunately, the owner I got it from sold the AC system. :banghead:

Between the original owner and myself, the car got repainted white, so it became white with black vinyl roof.

Here is the 74 the day I picked her up, Sept. 12, 2012. Hood, motor, trans, misc parts are included but not pictured.

    Original 18R-C and auto trans

    Bonus 18R-G and W50 trans

Silver was an excellent color on the early Celicas. Everything looks really great. Keep posting those photos.

    Trimming the end link bushings.

Right hand side with new ball joint, end link bushings and newly painted steering knuckle.

Repeat on the left hand side.

Also installed the new Aisin clutch master cylinder.

More assembly line check marks. This is on the right-hand side lower control arm, it has the "TEQ" stamped on the control arm. I masked off the area before painting the control arm to leave the white check mark intact.

Left -hand side lower control arm, also has the "TEQ" stamped on it. Again, masked off thewhite mark before painting it.

Received a package on this date from justdashes.com. I sent out my original cracked dash pad and the glove box lid to get restored.

Restored dash pad out of the box.

The view people will see the most.

    Now in October 7, 2017:

    Steering knuckles cleaned and painted.

    Sway bar cleaned and painted.

At this time, I was in email communication with Grant D. because the wait time for the seat skins was 6 months. This makes it a March 2018 deadline to get the seat skins and have time to get them installed by an upholsterer. He asked for photos of the original seats so he can see what trims it had, and I sent him photos. This is the passenger seat from the Celica.

I installed Cary's rack and pinion swap kit. I think Toyota should have spent more R&D and installed a manual rack and pinion in the Celica for a more direct feel. It's contemporaries, the Datsun Z and Ford Escort mkI both had rack and pinion steering.

    Installed the repainted engine crossmember.

I received my rebuilt brake booster. It's in the wrong finish. It should be a smooth, semi-gloss black, not the flat wrinkle (?) finish. I do have the original Bendix sticker that i removed, to be put back on at a later date.
