The 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z432 is a beguiling blend combination of the twin-cam S20 six (shared with the hakosuka 2000GT-R) and sexy S30 Fairlady Z looks, making it a blue-chip Japanese collector car of the highest order. And now Jeweler Ginza Tanaka has made a one-off replica of the Tomica Z432 model in platinum! It’s 7cm long, weighs 210 grams, and everything down to the opening doors and the wheels (which can spin) and even the box has been faithfully replicated. It took a month to make by hand and a great deal of that time was spent polishing it to the high lustre you see right there. There’s only one made, it’s not for sale, although if you did want one, Tomica estimates its cost at a cool $80,000.
This very special model was made to celebrate Tomica’s 40th anniversary this year. Since 1970, over 800 different models have been made, and over half a billion of the little toys have made their way into the eager hands of young kids (and not-so-young kids) all over the world over the past four decades. The model will be displayed at the Hong Kong International Jewelery Show this month, and will return to the homeland to be displayed at the Osaka Tomica Fair in late April.

Yesterday we did a post on some of the more recent cool toy releases from TakaraTomy. But that was just scratching the surface of their rather massive range of products. Here’s a sample of the rest of their offerings.

One of the cool things about going to Japan is just walking into a suburban toystore and spending a few hours discovering all the cool JDM toys (and also rediscovering the fact that you may not be as grown-up as you think you are as you stumble to the checkout with an armful of children’s toys for yourself).
And probably the biggest JDM toymaker is Takara Tomy (just check out their huge range of products)! There’s constantly something cool being released.

Lately I’ve gotten crazy for model cars, after the stupid night I spent turning my desktop scanner into a diorama. When a buddy linked me to these RC cars, I wasn’t instantly blown away—until I saw the number of shells they’ve got based on classic JDM cars. Hot damn. C110, C10, S30Z, RX-3, ooooof.
I can just see myself showin’ up at an RC race day with one of these, when everyone else is decked out with R34 GT-R and FD RX-7 shells. Aw yeah, haha.
Check ‘em out at ABC Hobby.

If you’ve got a spare US$560 floating around, you might like to head over to Yahoo! Auctions Japan and place the opening (and probably the final) bid on this customised Wangan Midnight S30Z model, which I think is 1/18 scale. My Jada 240Z is 1/24 and that’s already big enough to sit prominently on the shelf. Buy yourself an early christmas present, moneybags.
