Big Gallery of Airborne Nostalgics II

Back by popular demand, here’s the continuation of our Airborne Nostalgics series in which we post nothing but pictures of J-tin momentarily defying the forces of gravity. We also urge you to free any similar images you have from the confines of your hard drive and share them in Drew_TSi_Si_STi’s J-Tin Raced in Anger thread that started it all.

We just love this Datsun 610. With the sun-bleached dirt of a rally stage as a backdrop, it looks like it drove straight off the set of Mad Max. All aboard the Bartertown Express!  (more…)

Subaru Leone Car Chase in “Double Clutch”

So it’s Tuesday morning. You aren’t really gonna do work, are you? We know you’d rather stick it to Tha Man and watch a clip from the 1978 movie Double Clutch, featuring two vintage Subarus duking it out!

We have no idea what the rest of the movie is about, but in this clip the bad guy makes his escape in a rally-inspired Subaru Leone RX. Our hero is forced to jump into a four door Leone and give chase. When the pursuit veers off road, the director even gets a close up shot of him shifting into 4WD mode. How’s that for product placement?

Other things to notice: the groovetastic 70s soundtrack, a Nissan Cherry X-1R in the background, and the wakaba mark on the hero’s car. Well, what are you waiting for? Hit play and sit back for six minutes of pure Subie car chase action!

Thanks to Kostamojen for the tip!

Sex in the Subaru

Most of us would agree that the ’73 Subaru DL (aka Leone, in other markets) is a sexy beast, particularly with the early, small chrome bumpers, but the accompanying sultry advertising pitch might leave you gasping with it’s blatantly sexist metaphors:

Okay, if you’re not outraged, you’re probably chuckling, but let’s not be judgmental of an advertisement made up during the hairy chested, Marlboro Man decade.

At the same time, you gotta wonder if more women than men were buying Subarus back then. Hmm, maybe there’s a companion ad that seduces female car buyers to tame their own hairy-chested Subaru?
