More Vintage Wheel Ads: Techno, Yayoi, Etc.

techno phantom 2
We posted some vintage Japanese wheel ads a while back. Here’s some more spotted on Riverside. Many have a similar theme: modified OG J-ride, night time shot, the wheel in question and a glimpse of asphalt lit dramatically. The message is clear, get out there and race, foo! This Techno Phantom-shod RX-7 just beckons. (more…)

Friday Video: Seibu Keisatsu Nissan Carnage

We went with high art and how-to for the last two Friday Videos but this week is a return to the roots – more Seibu Keisatsu madness.

The video appears to be clips from two episodes spliced together. In the first one, our heroes’ R30 Skylines and S130 Fairlady Z give chase to a C230 Laurel. Look out for the rare Toyota sighting in the Nissan-sponsored series.

In the second vid, the crew pursues a 330 Cedric/Gloria through Nissan Sunny Miyagi, an actual dealership. Car carriers full of brand new Nissans become embroiled in the melee. A perfectly good B210 hatch gets its door shorn off, and the finale results in some serious cringe-inducing carnage.

Friday Video: Nissan Laurel vs. Datsun 720

We’re not even going to begin to guess what is going on in this Seibu Keisatsu clip. All we know is that there’s a C130 Nissan Laurel being chased down by a Datsun 720 pickup and that a kenmeri Skyline makes an appearance at the end. As per Seibu Keisatsu rules, heavy Nissan and Enkei sponsorship abounds.

Hardy Laurel

Three chaps from the Uke bought a 1982 Nissan Laurel for a hundred pounds sterling, or just under 200 US dollars. That may not seem like breaking news, but these gents intend to drive their banger saloon from Calais, France to Rimini, Italy as part of the 2007 Scally Rally, a trans-Europe voyage that passes through several sovereign nations, the Alps, and some truly gorgeous terrain, all in the name of charity. With their bargain mule, you’d think it’d be easier just to ditch it on the Italian coast and jet home, but the trio plans to drive the car back to whence it came, totaling 3,000 plus miles overall and putting our Cressida jaunt to shame. Well done, lads!

The team is rallying for Ulverston’s St Mary’s Hospice and emerges from the Chunnel on September 14 to commence Alpine antics.

We Love Love Old Cars

One of the many irrational anxieties that haunt us incessantly is the fear that every day, countless nostalgics are needlessly crushed as a result of Japan’s prohibitive auto registration laws, lack of parking space, and fashions that change by the hour. Sometimes we even wake up in a cold sweat clinging to our latest issue of Nostalgic Hero screaming, “Iiiiiie!” That’s why it’s so refreshing to see Love Old Cars, a blog that appears to do nothing but post on Japanese classics for sale on Yahoo Japan Auctions, the majority of them unmodified survivors. Thanks to them, we sleep a little easier knowing that rarities like this yellow Skyline wagon and beauties like this red Laurel can still be found.
