Help Add A Mazda RX-3SP and Honda CR-X to Forza 3

Forza 3 is teaming up with Jalopnik for the next round of downloadable cars for the racing sim. Let’s try to stuff the ballot box with J-tin like this Mazda RX-3SP (flames not included). Other candidates include the ‘84 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE, first-gen Honda CR-X Si and quasi-nostalgics like the B13 Sentra SE-R, Mazda 323 GT-R, Acura Legend, Mitsubishi Evos I and V, ‘96 Scooby STi, and ST165 and ST185 Toyota Celica WRC cars.

The Nostalgics of Gran Turismo PSP and Forza Motorsport 3

forza_nissan_skyline_kpgc10
Just a brief intermission before continuing with the JCCS barrage. Recently, both Gran Turismo for PSP and Forza Motorsport 3 racing sim franchises have announced the master lineups. Here are all the cars that may be relevant to the interests of JNC readers: (more…)

I Feel the Need: Need For Speed SHIFT

shift_c10
One of the oldest and most well loved series of racing games is Need for Speed.  And like all the latest generation driving games, the next NFS game, Need for Speed SHIFT, promises even more amazing graphics and immersive gameplay.  NFS piqued our interest recently when it released news of the KPGC10’s inclusion in the next game. I think maybe the taillight placement isn’t quite right but who’s complaining?

Watch the trailer after the jump and salivate at the opportunity to drive a hakosuka in a properly immersive driving sim (and crash it without having to worry about where the parts are going to come from).

280Z Spotted in Midnight Club: Los Angeles Game

midnightclub
We’ve never believed that a racing game should have to include an underground street racing storyline and the presence of dubs. Call us Gran Turismo snobs if you must, but the reason the GT series appeals to our inner nerds is the rich selection of classic cars available in the game. Recently there’s been a lot of noise on teh Internets about Midnight Club: Los Angeles, the latest in one of the cartoonish series we’ve been ignoring. That is, until this Datsun 280Z caught our eye. Admittedly, the ridiculous X-wing spoiler doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but consider our interest piqued. For those jonesing for some old school Gran Turismo goodness, take a look at this forum thread.

Disappointing Lack of Classics in GT5 Prologue

gt4civic.jpggt4tvr.jpgOur favorite car game of all time has to be Grand Turismo 4. Naturally, the gorgeous graphics and enormous variety of cars and tracks are as fantastic as anything we’ve come to expect from the franchise, but the best part of all was its inclusion of some old school nostalgics – first gen Celicas, 240ZGs, 70s Mitsus, Isuzu Bellets, Bluebird 510s, Prince Skylines, and even tiny kei cars like the Honda S800 and Subaru 360. GT4 made it possible to create our dream garage virtually.

So of course, we were anticipating its sequel, GT5 with mouthwatering giddiness. The new Playstation 3 graphics engines are so hi-res that whereas it took one day to model a car in GT1GT2 and one month in GT3GT4, GT5 takes an epic six months. That’s why publisher Polyphony is releasing just a teaser in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue as its massive supercomputer rendering farm churns away.

Unfortunately, none of the classics have found their way into GT5. Here’s a list of cars, thanks to our resident game expert Madflava. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed for the final version. Those graphics sure are purrdy though. Compare the ‘79 Civic in GT4 with the orange TVR Tamora in GT5 Prologue.

Mora Dekotora, Tora, Tora!

Will Jalopnik’s fascination with dekotora ever cease? We sure hope not. You’ve got the coffee table book, now supplement that with Zenkoku Dekotora Matsuri, a new game for the Nintendo Wii. Piloting a giant chrome truck through the narrow streets of Tokyo has never been this much fun! Navigate low overpasses, add ever gaudier pieces of trim to your classy ride, and avoid running over brake-happy kei cars. It’s even got a Gran Turismo-esque photo mode. The only question now is, Hino Super Dolphin Profia or Nissan Diesel Big Thumb?

UPDATE: Oh Noes! Our resident video game expert MadFlava tells us that the Wii is region-encoded. Cruel Fates, why do you tempt us so?
