1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster Article by Datsunfreak

datsun1600roadster
Time for some more self promotion! Check out this month’s Super Street magazine for an article by everyone’s favorite moderator, Datsunfreak! His real name is Bruce Wayne John P. Roper, and those are his words and photos schooling y’all on Mike Braaten’s Datsun 1600 Roadster. It’s a 1970, the last model year for the roadsters, but that’s an SR20DE beating under the hood. You can check out the article by following the link or by picking up your very own copy on newsstands now.

Datsun 1600 Roadster Does Mexico

Team Lucha Libre Racing’s Datsun 1600 Sports roadster has once again returned triumphantly from La Carrera Panamericana 2008. As readers know from the article in Japanese Nostalgic Car magazine Issue 2, this was the first Japanese car ever to run the legendary road race, and we are happy to report that it is still in one piece. Car owner and navigator Michael Emery emailed us to say that the Datsun “ran like a dream.” Over the week-long race across Mexico’s open roads, he needed only to adjust the timing once and change the oil. That’s it! Says Emery, “We ran as high as 58th overall out of 100 cars, with 30hp less than the next lowest-powered car. Finished at 70th overall with my lousy navigation the only thing to blame.” Congrats, Michael! You can read more about his adventures at LuchaLibreRacing.com.

First up, on Saturday Nov. 8 is the Southern California Datsun Roadster Club’s Show & Shine Toy Drive at the Datsun Heritage Museum. There is no entrance fee for the museum or the car show, but please bring a toy valued at at least $10 to donate to charity. The address of the DHM is 41610 Date St, Murrieta, CA 92562 and the event goes from 10am to 3pm.

Then, on Sunday Nov. 9, there’s a Datsun swap meet happening at Superior Nissan of Puente Hills. The location is 17621 East Gale Avenue, City Of Industry, CA 91748, and will lasts from 10am to 4pm.

Sorry for the short notice. Now it’s back to the chaos of the last day of SEMA!

EVENTS: Empire Z Car Show

We hit up the Empire Z Club Car Show today to find more subscribers for JNC and check out some fine examples of classic Datsuns. The club is eight years old and is about 35 members strong. They own Z-Cars old and new, but the show itself, held at Corona Nissan in Corona, California, is open to all vintage Datsuns, and not necessarily to club members. If you’re a Nissan/Datsun owner who lives within the region spanned by Ontario, San Bernadino, Riverside and Yucaipa, check them out. Click to this thread to see the pics.
