This incredible 1968 Datsun Bluebird 411 is probably the closest you’ll ever get to owning a time capsule car. According to the seller, this RHD predecessor to the Datsun 510 lived in a New Zealand museum for 20 years before it was imported to the US. The odometer reads only 18,179 miles and the condition certainly seems to affirm the claim.

So Transformers not your style? Here’s our first open kidney offer that doesn’t involve an actual car. It’s a vintage Tomica Grand Prix Circuit set that we came across while skimming the Tomica Fan Club forums. Talk about cool… just look at that gorgeous box art, that beauteous orange plastic! (more…)

First it came in metallic blue, which was so scarce we never actually found it in stores. Then you could buy one in whatever color you wanted, as long as it was black. Now Hot Wheels is releasing what I personally think is the coolest color of them all for the Datsun Bluebird 510, metallic brown! Keep your eyes peeled and if you see one, let us know where you found it.

While Matt was down at the imG Old Skewl Meet in San Diego yesterday yours truly was at the Z-Car Club of Inland Valley’s annual car show at Quality Nissan in Temecula. Despite the name of the club all manner of Datsuns were welcomed with open arms, and the results are here: (more…)

We get a lot of strange letters in our inbox here at JNC headquarters and most of them just leave us scratching our heads. But once in a while a shining gem rises above the chaff to make our bellies ache with laughter. Marcus H.’s rant was so well-written and funny that we cannot improve on it at all, so we’ll just print it in its entirety: (more…)

Man, this ad for the Nissan Bluebird 510 is groovy, baby! The sound barrier breaking motif tied in nicely with the car’s sleek, post-jet age styling. In fact, the character line that extends down the side of the body is called the “supersonic line.” The helmeted woman and the go-go beat totally reminded us of the Maruzen Oil ad of the same era, though the latter is just slightly more infectious.

Let’s face it, blowing up real cars is not only expensive, but cringe-inducing. We can’t help but wince when a perfectly good nostalgic gets wadded up, even if the car was new and plentiful at the time of the stunt. Luckily, this week’s Friday video captures all the danger and excitement of Seibu Keisatsu without the actual vehicular carnage.
A youtuber by the name of Luxe37 has created an incredible series of stop-motion car chases using Tomica nostalgics and some awesome sound effects. We like parts VI and VII, in which the bad guys run an armored wagon off the road, steal its cargo and make their getaway in a Fairlady Z. Check out the conclusion after the jump. (more…)

Here is your Friday video. But it’s Thursday, you say? Yes, there will be no Friday post this week because I’ll be on a plane to Japan! Hopefully the forthcoming pictures will make up for it.
This clip is once again from Seibu Keisatsu, the Japanese cop show that has destroyed more Nissans than Formula D. The story arc of this chase is a bit unclear, but you basically have the West Tokyo Police Force mobilizing against bad guys in a pair of car carriers. As the gullwing 280ZX, R30 Skyline and a random unmarked Cedric give chase, the trucks – hauling a Fairlady Z and kenmeri Skyline, I might add – cause all sorts of havoc for Bluebird and Cedric drivers unfortunate enough to be in their path.
And oh look, the cops can flip a switch to turn any traffic signal green! Despite a computer that looks about as advanced as a Texas Instruments graphing calculator, they manage to divert the perps into a roadblock. But the real question is never answered. What happened to the hostage cars on the carriers!?
See you on the flipside!

One of our favorite recent threads has been “J-tin Raced in Anger” by JNCer Drew_TSi_Si_STi. From there we collected a subset of nostalgics that have briefly managed to divorce themselves from planet earth. Hang on tight, brace yourself for a busted spine and click through for more pics! (more…)
