Hot Rod Nissan

If you’ve been to SEMA you know that the vast majority of vehicles are either classic American or new Japanese. Here’s one that manages to combine both: a ‘32 Ford Highboy powered by a VG30DE from a 1996 Nissan 300ZX with its accompanying 5-speed. Much of the running gear – spindles, brakes, hubs, diff, halfshafts – were also from a Z32, mated to a custom 5-link suspension. Follow the jump for a closeup of the engine.

Which do you prefer, the hot rod Nissan or rat rod Datsun?

That’s crazy! Wonder if they beefed it up a bit? They could have always gone with a VG30DETT… but with such a light car the VG30DE was probably powerful enough to get her going. Nice to see some people that are into old hot-rods appreciate Japanese engines…

That’s pretty cool. I personally would have used the Titan V8, cuz nothin’ sounds like a V8 rumble..lol

J.Ramirez had the right idea. Plenty of room and easy access = should have used the TT engine instead.

I agree with JSchrauwen. I would have gone with the TT engine as well…exactly the same amount of work, twice the power.(maybe they didn’t want the hassle of the intercoolers….

Remember the Mitsubishi engined rod Boyd Coddington (R.I.P.) built around 1990? The “Alumacoupe”. That build broke some new ground!

That is hot,but I’d be even more excited if the body were based on an old Nissan.Something like this, perhaps: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/Nissan_Model_70_Phaeton.jpg

I think the Nissan V series 6 cylinders sound nice, I love the way a 350z sounds.

Meh, personally not my cup of tea. It’s just not cricket. And that “rat rod” in the link isn’t exactly a rat rod.

It is nice to see Japanese engines on “Rat Rods”.
