Last Monthly Torrance/South Bay Meet of 2009

The boys with the Datsun wagons held the final South Bay meet of 2009 last Friday and despite the chilly (for SoCal) temperatures we rolled in to join the festivities.

We saw the Mazda R100 above at SevenStock earlier this year. Note the RHD, Victoria license plate and Simmons B45 wheels. This baby is more Australian than Paul Hogan on a boomerang.
southBayMeet11_datsun280ZX_nissanFairladyZ_S130We were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few Datsun 280ZXs in attendance. Yes, it’s larger and heavier than the 240Z but it makes for a great hashiriya sled.

See what we mean? If it weren’t for the blue Cali license plate, this scene could have been lifted directly from any rest stop along the Tomei, circa 1989. Well, perhaps the Tamon Design body kit for the FC3S Mazda RX-7 is a bit too new for that, but the turbo L28 sure isn’t!

JCCS godfather Koji Yamaguchi rolled in on Longchamps XR4s affixed to his Datsun 510 wagon.

Best of all, meet organizers Jorge and Priscilla brought the holiday spirit with baked goods in the form of rising sun flags and the JNC logo! Awesomest. Cookie. Ever. They also collected gifts and canned food for donation to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and posted lost more photos in the forum.

If you missed out there’s always January. However, the first Friday of the month falls on New Year’s Day so the next meet will likely be moved to January 8th. Stay tuned for updates.

cold? let me guess, mid 50’s, right? cali people need to move north for the winter.. heck, i’m in Virginia and got an inch and a half of snow and ice last night. but we don’t have meets nearly as epic as that one. i too love the 280’s.

You southern boys need to quit yer whinin! It’s been in the low 20’s here in the Puget Sound area, and we’ve had a warm front compared to our neighbor’s a little to the east!

240z’s are cool, but maybe people are getting tired of seeing so many? The 280 is the next big classic, yet it is still attainable to a lot of people looking for a good project.

The S130’s have that muscular looking thing going on… it’s starting to appeal to me and a few others obviously! I wouldn’t mind a Turbo version… I’m glad to see a mix and match of different cars at the meets and I’m never left wanting.

Please! If you are in the are or if it’s not too far… come by the meets! We meet every first Friday of the month except for this meet coming January which we will meet on the 8th as Ben mentioned. Depending on when JCCS ’10 falls we may change the date or have a caravan… or a meet and a caravan. TBA

If you need more info just e-mail me or hit me on the forum.

Thanks for coming by Ben! Thanks for the cool pix and coverage!

    Sayonara!

    A 280ZX 2+2 with fender mirrors woulda been a nice treat. 🙂
