MINICARS: How to turn a Hot Wheels Nissan Skyline into a kaido racer

There’s a whole subculture of customized Hot Wheels and, as it happens, an ever-growing list of Japanese castings. That gives ample opportunity to create something cool from Japan’s rich car culture, like this Kenmeri Skyline kaido racer. It’s hard to believe, but this custom started life as a standard $1 Hot Wheels.

The video, created by the Model Car Project, is mesmerizing to watch. In addition to the unique body work, paint, and wheels, the car features an hinged opening hood, with prop. Open it and you’ll find a miniature turbo RB motor. It takes an amazing set of skill and patience to pull this off, but the result is worth it.

I have friends who customise Hot Wheels and Tomica diecast. Got myself a few custom Greenlight models done up in the local police livery.

Some people are just artists with such a tiny scale! It’s really impressive to see people do body work, great paint jobs and even lights.

    Hats off to those guys!
