Hot Wheels Datsun Bluebird 510 is “Faster Than Ever”

Are you tired of seeing yellow 510s and a billion different Mustang variations at your local Hot Wheels rack? Soon this mean red and black Datsun Bluebird 510 will be showing up at your local toy store in the “Faster Than Ever” line. That means these will have nickel-plated axles that help them scoot down the track a bit faster. We like this graphic scheme a lot — the black hood on red body reminds us of the East African Safari Rally livery worn by Nissans of yore. More images after the fold.

P.S. How is it that we still haven’t found a single kenmeri and only about three hakosuka

ive found 4 hakos…… and not one kenmeri…. its a little unmotivating… lol
but this red 510 will keep me on my toes

  2. Nigel says:

No Hakosuka’s yet just lots of yellow 510’s.
    I did find a black R35, however.

  3. E-AT_me says:

if anyone really wants a hako, let me know. my walmart has them like water.. apparently buying 4 of them the first week they are out meant they were in high demand? hahaha. it also may help i live in the country and ain’t no one knows what theys is..

  4. Nigel says:

Maybe I will make a roadtrip to a rural Walmart.
    (Good idea E-AT_me).

While you’re at it, buy up all the Treasure Hunts (green cards), that will piss off the local collectors/scalpers.

In LA, there just aren’t enough Walmarts, so we don’t get as good of a selection as those who live in less populated areas, which are likely to have more WMs. Even San Diego has more WMs than here. One of my friends took a trip up to the Mammoth, and stopped off at the Kmart in Ridgecrest or some small town like that, and sure enough he got a bunch of Treasure Hunts and Ghostbuster Ecto-1s (this was in 2010).

  5. Toyotageek says:

LOL, did you notice that the HWC Sneak Peek site calls it a Datsun 240Z (Faster Than Ever)……..

    • Ben says:

Hahaha, someone needs to visit JNC more often 😉 There was another time where the Datsun 510 was referred to as the Datsun 519 but I’ll chalk that one up to a slip of the keys…

  6. ra21benj says:

I still haven’t seen a Hakosuka at my local socal stores. I got 5 of Hakosukas at the Frank and Sons collector show with 100% mark-up (still only $2). Waiting for the Kenmeri to show up. New style wheels doesn’t seem match the red 510, but I’ll pick it up to join my black, white, and yellow 510’s.

  7. Eric says:

Awesome! Is there any news on the BRE styled 510 that was supposed to be released in September?

    • John says:

It’s out. But FYI, it’s not on the regular racks. It’s a “special edition” that costs $3-4. Look for a separate rack with the higher priced cars grouped together.

    • Jun says:

I see they are hitting the auction sites, which means they are hitting stores!

  8. Koich says:

Zero Hakosuka or Kenmeri here in the Bay Area. What’s up with that? Every store I go to does not have one.

  9. Lukas says:

Here in Austria, I found one white Kenmeri and bought it imediately, but sadly no Hakosukas for me. I am not interested in 510s anymore, too much colors and too old. Bring more JNCs from other manufacturers.

  10. Tyler says:

Looks good imo. Wonder why they did that ugly yellow pattern for so long. I’ve got about 4 or 5 hako’s and decided to not buy any more lol. No Kenmeri’s yet. I didn’t even know they were available yet.

Still waiting on the Celica and RX3… 😉

  11. Richard says:

they have a kenmeri hot wheel?!

  12. Stevester says:

Wow. I thought I was being left behind. I finally found about 6 HakoSuka a couple weeks ago at Walmart right after it appeared they got a new shipment (rack as full). I chose two of the best ones for myself and a third for a friend. Now on the lookout for the BRE 510 (I have a few of the “regular” ones) and the Kenmeri.

  13. Drive510 says:

Another 510 to be released. Still waiting for a 4dr 510/Bluebird to come out. Haven’t yet found a Kenmary in stores yet. I hope I can find them soon.

  14. $EX¥_HAMMER says:

    Dear Jun,

Please stress to the guys that put these into production that none of these cars need the equivalent of 24″ wheels with 35 series rubber bands on them.

The good ol’ 5 spoke original Hot Wheels are fine, and if you really want see about making some Watanabes, Libres, SSRs, literally anything in an appropriate scale size for the awesome cars you’ve been working on.

    Thanks.

    • Toyotageek says:

Here, here! Love the car but them wheels gotta go. Don’t know why they ruin great castings with donk wheels.

      • Jun says:

I hear you that this wheel might not seem like the perfect fit, but the car is in a segment that promotes our new “Faster than Ever” wheel, which is what you see there and is a new design for 2011. It’s better suited for our more modern and sportier offerings, but hey…you’re getting nickel plated axles as opposed to non plated axles on this version!

        • Toyotageek says:

Thanks for the reply and explanation Jun!
I know these are the types of decisions that come from higher up…

Guess it just means wheel swap time! ;op

        • $EX¥_HAMMER says:

has hot wheels considered putting out wheel sets for guys who like to modify their cars? to the best of my knowledge there’s only 2 kits being sold right now and neither of them has a decent selection.

  15. Charlie says:

Funny thing is the old 510 bluebirds alwasy win the speed test my son and i set up. Got a Hako recently, only found one so it’s still unopened.

  16. Robert says:

The Kenmeri just came in stock around the bay area (Petaluma K-mart)

  17. Stevester says:

Woohoo! Just bought a Kenmeri at Target near GF’s house. It was the last one; gonna check my local Targets and Wamarts!

  18. got-rice says:

This is a 2012 car, so we’ll see it later this year, along with a 240Z. As far as the Hakosukas go, I found a lot of them a Toys R Us. The Kenmeris are just coming out in the current case, so expect to get them now.

If you guys can’t find them at TRU, Walmart and Target, hit up stores like 99 Cents Only, Big Lots, or even Ralphs, etc. because they get the older cases and can sell them cheaper than the bigger retailers. I’m thinking they’ll be hitting hard at Big Lots, especially since the holidays are just around the corner, and they usually get tons of cases.

    • Ben says:

Thanks for the tip! I didn’t even know Big Lots sold Hot Wheels.

      • got-rice says:

It’s hard to know when BL gets cars…since they specialize in closeouts, they usually get cars closer to the holidays, but it honestly it could be anytime when Mattel offers them discounted cases. I would think BL should have the case with the Hako and the Treasure Hunt Z, which came out in Case M released in early July. I’ll even say, check out your nearest grocer, preferably Ralphs, since they get older “cases” too. When they have a sale, you can usually find the cars that were once hard to find (saw a lot of yellow 510s for 88 Cents).

  19. Richard says:

FYI, the Kenmeri is out already, friend of mine found one for me at Target.

  20. george says:

Glad to see everyone at least has a chance at getting some cars.Come to the GUAM kmart and you will NEVER get a treasure hunt,no matter how many cars you buy, even if you have been collecting for years. And to top it off they will often bring out 30-40-50 or more opened cases on a pallet and thats right, not 1 treasure hunt. Some employee(s) have a good collection or supplement that awesome salary……go kmart….

  21. george says:

I forgot to mention about the kmart event cars…They get the special cases but are TOO lazy to hold the event even though the cars come a week late.I can only guess they just dont want the customers to get ANY treasure hunts…..Happy hunting….go kmart.

  22. george says:

Just want to know if anyone knows which was the first Hot Wheels car to get the new FTE2 wheels…
