MINICARS: 2015 Hot Wheels lineup announced

1990 Honda NSX

Mattel has announced the entire 2015 Hot Wheels lineup. Each year, there are a number of brand new castings and this year the one that jumps out to JNCers is surely the 1990 Acura NSX. Yes, by next year, Soichiro’s supercar will officially be a Japanese nostalgic car. What a great way to welcome it into the family.

“Wait,” some of you might be saying, “There’s already an NSX in the Hot Wheels lineup.” True words. That’s it above. While a massively bewinged and scooped version ready to run the JGTC is cool, we have it on good authority that the new one will be a lot more stock.

This is the work of Hot Wheels’ resident Honda head Ryu Asada, who has a fondness for the NSX and wanted to see a clean, classic version represented. Not only is the 1990 version going to be a nostalgic next year, it’s the purest expression of the NSX design.

Also new is an entire “Drift Race” segment, that includes the Scion FR-S, AE86, and a new casting called the Drifsta. We are also thrilled that J-tin is back in the popular Then & Now segment as well, this time represented by a Datsun 240Z and Nissan 370Z. Those familiar with the category know that it takes two models linked by generations and gives them a similar paint scheme. While the 240Z (which should be hitting shelves now) has an official JNC inkan; the 370Z will not.

The rest of the 2015 lineup includes many JNC favorites, including the Mad Manga, Datsun 620, Mazda RX-7, EF Honda Civic, Datsun Bluebird Wagon, and for the first time in the regular lineup, the Subaru BRAT.

Other, not-quite-classic specimen of J-tin include the Honda S2000, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, Toyota Baja truck, Scion xB, Honda Racer, Acura NSX Concept, and Toyota Supra. While not as loaded as 2014, it should still be an epic year for collectors. You can see the full lineup at the official Hot Wheels site.

    Awesome, my search continues !

  2. Yoda says:

Still want all of them. Still slightly disappointed that the BRAT is a firstgen – there were a lot of toys/models of it from back in the day but almost none of the secondgen except the Tamiya R/C.

  3. Mister K says:

    @JUN, why no new JNC’s?!

  4. JHMAB2 says:

Oh crap, i thought it read Honda BEAT for a second. I was about to have a heart attack of excitement for a second there. I’m hoping they’ll get a little more creative and you know throw in a Prelude or 5, first gen Accord or Civic. Or the Mazda RX-4!

  6. Toyotageek says:

Definitely looking forward to the NSX.

The ONLY Hot Wheels that I’m at all interested in are the Japanese cars, so even if they are (mostly) recolors of existing models, I’m still happy to see them in the line-up, and hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on them since we all know how cut-throat the collecting scene is here in So Cal. 😉

  7. XRaider927 says:

since I know about jun imai is there an article mostly related to ryu asada?

  8. rokushoo says:

JHMAB2 a RX-4 would be great.I always wanted Hot Wheels to make a Mazda RX-3 because my Grandpa used to own one and while i never saw it in person after seeing the pictures and hearing his stories I’ve wanted one.

  9. Not so many NSX and people are not doing widebody on them, such a shame!

  10. Kids Nook says:

I look forward to the Mad Manga :). Can’t wait for them to hit the shelves. Gonna be increasing my kid’s (and mine 😉 ) toy car collection .
