Scion FR-S Drifter and First 86 Program

Toyota made two announcements today regarding the US-badged neo-hachiroku. Firstly, ToMoCo expects sales to be so piping hot that they built a website just to give the enthusiasts a chance to be one of the initial (no pun intended) 86 Scion FR-S owners. Hmm, 86… that sounds familiar. Since this is a heritage car, maybe Toyota should do like Ferrari with the Enzo and offer it to Toyotaku who already own an AE86 or 2000GT or Sports 800. The registration begins January 12 at 9am PST and will last for 8 hours, 6 minutes.

The rest can watch from the sidelines, like spectators ensconced in a cloud of toxic tire smoke generated by Toyota’s second announcement. You knew it was coming: the Greddy Scion FR-S drifter. Driver Ken Gushi probably couldn’t wait to get out of his former ride, a ridiculous RWD-converted Scion tC. It’s said to output 600 horsepower. Sadly, you cannot buy this.

A RWD-converted tC may be ridiculous, but it sounds like ridiculous fun to me.

Holy s***. It gets better! When are these hitting the streets?

  4. James Bock says:

I agree, I would love if they would do the Ferrari program, being an Yotahachi owner (Toyota S800) Not sure if the wife would approve, but right now I want one of these to run on Roebling Road, and see how it far I can drive into turn one. These cars look great, cannot wait to test one out.

Gushi and Greddy have had the car since well before SEMA. The car is suppose to be powered by a completely cosworth built boxer engine. I can’t wait to see Gushi back with a team that will do things his way and see him reach his full potential in Formula D.
