Ghostly 1972 Nissan Calendar Lives On

For a nation as tightly packed as Japan, there’s a surprising number of abandoned buildings. In many cases, they remain in tact for decades — no wrecking balls, no fleet of Komatsus to build a new skyscraper, just items left behind as if the inhabitants were all instantly raptured up to heaven.

A few years ago, we read an article about the discovery of an old man who had passed away quietly in his apartment. Because he had no surviving family, no one reported him missing. The owner of his building went belly up and abandoned the entire complex. When new developers finally came to tear the place down, they found everything in his unit left exactly as it was the day he died, including a newspaper and calendar dated sometime in the mid 80s.

The point of this story is that JNCer Kuroneko discovered an abandoned house at the base of Mt. Fuji, in which a twelve-month Nissan calendar still hangs on the wall. It’s from 1972. Unfortunately, Kuroneko’s personal code of ethics prevented him from liberating this artifact from its home of 40 or so years, but he promises to go back and at least photograph the other eleven pages for the world to appreciate.

Spooky. I’ve seen enough Japanese horror movies to know better than to step foot inside an abandoned building that might contain a mummified dead body.

That picture is beautiful, just like time stood still for 39 years!! 🙂
However can you get the pictures in color as well? The picture appears to be the same style as the Dutch 240K catalogue I bought some time ago:

Some things need only to be seen. (Very high on the Heeby Jeeby scale.)
